Underrides occur when a smaller vehicle, typically a passenger automobile, crashes into the truck's rear, with the smaller vehicle's forward momentum carrying it under the truck or its trailer. Typically, the truck slows or stops and the following passenger vehicle continues traveling into the rear of the truck.
